Gold Member Case Study - ABP Foods
Founded in 1954 in Ardee, Co. Louth, ABP Foods is one of Europe’s largest meat processors, supplying premium beef, lamb, and pork across multiple countries with innovative practices.
In 2024, ABP Foods maintained Beef Benchmarking Reports for 5,500 suppliers and increased Advantage Beef Programme participation to over 1,000 farmers, surpassing both milestone targets.
In 2024, ABP Foods maintained strong momentum in its supplier sustainability initiatives, meeting key targets and expanding engagement across its beef supply chain. The number of suppliers receiving the Beef Benchmarking Report remained steady at 5,500, meeting the milestone and ensuring consistent access to performance insights for farmers.
The company progressed all planned initiatives under this target, including a comprehensive review of their sustainability programmes and the introduction of new actions. One such initiative, a comprehensive review of their Advantage Beef Programme, required participating farmers to create an AgNav platform for their farm to improve sustainability and productivity.
ABP Foods also strengthened its Advantage Beef Programme, with cattle registrations rising from 2023 to 2024, surpassing the milestone target by 8%. The number of herds within the programme increased to over 1,000, reflecting growing farmer participation. Over 35,000 Advantage Beef cattle were processed during the year, demonstrating the programme’s operational impact. Animals within the Programme were on average 85 days younger at slaughter than the national average, driven by Programme initiatives such as improved genetics and herd health.
To support knowledge sharing and uptake, ABP Foods hosted 11 events in 2024, attracting over 1,100 attendees. These events provided a platform for farmers to learn about sustainable practices, benchmarking tools, and the benefits of joining the Advantage Beef Programme. The company’s collaborative approach continues to drive measurable improvements in farm-level sustainability.
