Trading with the US

For Irish business export queries on US tariffs, please email tariffs@bordbia.ie.

As we reflect on the changed trading environment faced by the global economy, Bord Bia wants to take this opportunity to re-affirm its commitment and support for the sector as it navigates the current uncertainties. We understand that this presents a significant challenge for our sector, disrupting established trade flows and placing increased pressure on trading relationships with priority business partners.

Bord Bia’s supports and resources are here to help guide companies through these difficult times. From offering tailored advice and activation assistance, to helping businesses with strategic marketing and business development support to diversify into new markets, Bord Bia is here to help facilitate client engagement with the marketplace. As the situation develops, Bord Bia’s extensive network and expertise remain at the disposal of Irish food and drink companies.

In our discussions with both the Government and industry stakeholders, Bord Bia continues to reinforce the importance of immediate, collaborative and targeted support to mitigate the worst effects of these tariffs. Bord Bia, alongside other Government agencies, stands ready to help companies navigate this evolving landscape.

Navigating the Changes

It is important that clients consider their business processes for supplying the US and their commercial model. If you have not already, ensure you:

  • Engage with your partners – be that customers, intermediaries, agents, etc, to ensure open and clear communications
  • Understand the implications across your supply chain – in particular consider your cash flow, pricing strategy, stock management plans
  • Understand your contractual obligations, and that of your partners
  • Reflect on your market and customer activation plans and consider if these should be dialled up or down
  • Keep an eye out on wider global impacts and knock on implications on costs or competition
  • Assess your commercial marketing strategy – does your 'where to play' and 'how to win' need to change?
