Pig Trade & Prices
Prices: Deadweight pig prices in Ireland for the week ending 4th of October, the average reported price paid for Grade E pigs decreased to 188.59c/kg (excluding VAT). Producers indicate that prices remain in the range of €1.94–€1.98/kg from processors.
This level is 12% lower than the corresponding week last year, when prices averaged €2.15/kg. The EU average price for Grade E carcasses held at €1.87/kg excluding VAT, representing a decrease of 16c/kg below the same week in 2024 (€2.03/kg). European pig prices remain under pressure, with reductions across Spain and France (4c/kg and 1c/kg respectively)
Throughput: Throughput continues to be strong in the past quarter, though demand remains ahead of supplies. Year-to-date throughput totals 2.6 million head, which is over 86,000 head above the same period in 2024. Slaughtering’s for the week ending 4th of October amounted to 66,273 head, including 1,736 sows and 25 boars. To date in 2025, there has been a 3.5% increase in fattener pig throughput compared with the same period last year.
